Beaches in Miami

And Some Mighty Salty Water!

What Happens on the Beaches in Miami...

A Story by Julia

When we first came to Florida from the North West, everything was new, different and exciting. We had never spent much time around the ocean, the beaches and of course, all of the people!

That was 12 years ago.

So now, when we have friends and family come to visit, we want to show off our "new area" and we give them the choices of what they would like to see... South Beach (the most popular of the Miami beaches) always being at the top of everyone's list.

I remember the first time my brother and his wife came to see us. We went to South Beach and decided to go for a swim.

My brother jumped in and jumped out almost as fast! We didn't know what had happened! Spitting and sputtering, he said, "Wow, that water is SALTY". We laughed about that for days and it has been one of my favorite stories when we take guests to the beach.

That was over 5 years ago, and just yesterday, I get a phone call from my brother. He tells me that he has just finished watching a documentary on TV which stated that the Atlantic Ocean is much saltier than the Pacific Ocean. I haven't verified this fact yet, but I have to smile to think that he is still trying to justify his reaction to the first time he jumped into the "salty" Atlantic Ocean.

It's amazing to think of the funny things that are said and done in one's life, and how they stick with you forever! Whenever the conversation turns to salt water, swimming, or the local beaches in Miami, my memory takes me back...

For I know that every time I go to the beach and I think just how salty the water is, I'll remember my brother and smile at the good time we shared at South Beach over 5 years ago!
