The Coral Castle

The Coral Castle is an Amazing Monument to One Man's Love!

Often referred to as "America's Stonehedge", Ed Leedskalnin's monument to Agnes Scuffs is an astonishing love story.

We have visited the "Castle" on a few different occasions and it is one of those places we like to share with visiting friends and family. It is simply that interesting!

It took Ed 20 years to build this monument to the woman he loved. The castle, the furniture, everything was made and carved from coral bedrock.

To me, it's unbelievable the things he accomplished.

He moved hundreds of tons of coral by himself, with tools he crafted himself. For example, the blocks that he carved for the walls of the "Tower" weighed from 4 to 9 tons apiece.

The gate weighs 6000 lbs and can be opened with one finger. He built a "Polaris Telescope" with one of the two pieces weighing 40,000 lbs.

The story of the "Castle" is amazing and should not be missed. The romantic in all of us will feel the pain Ed must have endured as he built this tribute to the woman who spurned him.
